  • The Six Fingers in “Love’s Oracle” by Albert Ritzberger

The Six Fingers in “Love’s Oracle” by Albert Ritzberger

Albert Ritzberger. 1853-1915. Love’s Oracle. Oil on canvas.  (Nottingham City Museums and Galleries)

Did you know that the lady featured in “Love’s Oracle” by acclaimed German painter Albert Ritzberger has six fingers? This was kindly pointed out to me by a very articulate gallery staff member during my recent visit to Nottingham Castle Museum.

Another special mention is that if you look close enough, well this is quite apparent after revelation – but yes, if you look close enough, all four faces in the painting are apparently the same – albeit with different expressions.

This is a special painting. Certainly one to check next time you’re in Nottingham.

  • Sirens in the wind

    Sirens in the wind

Nottingham has sounds of a soaring siren bird.
All wail yet calm, solemn but bold.
    Ey,
Listen one more time to hear it.

    Lone.

Silence in the wind, and maybe a whisper of dispair.
Jus’ sometimes dry, served mostly cold.
    Ey,
Listen one more time to hear it.
    Autumn.

Ye, behold let this city unfold.
